From the Dome Car: Train 2 Track 1 (May-June 1991)
Year two! Publishing a magazine is hard work, as Morgan discovered. So making it to a second year is worth celebrating. To mark the occasion, he had a special anniversary box car made; maybe some of you have one. (Only 250 were made.) A miss with a CRM hat, though, as Morgan explained. And a new feature announced: One evening projects.
As this issue begins the second year for Canadian Railway Modeller magazine, we want to thank all those who have supported us during our first year. Our policy is to deliver a quality product unique to the Canadian modelling scene and to this end, we have succeeded. Our future goal is to maintain this specialized product at its optimum level and with that in mind, certain priorities have been set and are being implemented to carry us through these recessive times.
Our schedule has been
behind and we will take ALL the steps necessary for correction. There have been
some personnel changes at "head office".
Nadene McBride has moved on to other opportunities and we extend a warm welcome to our new Advertising and Promotions Manager, Margaret Smith.
We are proud to announce the production by H&D Hobby Distributors from Calgary, Alberta, of our first Limited Run Edition 40' box car commemorating the First Anniversary of Canadian Railway Modeller magazine. H&D produced 250 cars and they are available for $15.00 plus $3.00 postage through the magazine, G.S.T. included. They are limited to one car per order to be paid in advance with your cheque or PMO—refundable if we run out.
The HO scale Athearn kit is a Mustard colour with a two colour CRM logo and is marked 'First Anniversary' and 'This Car One Of 250 Limited Run'. H&D, well known for producing fine work, did a splendid job on developing and producing it for us. It's this kind of cooperation and dedication that will propel CRM over the top and our sincerest thanks is directed to Hans Madson and the staff at H&D.
Also of interest to the folks that like collectibles, is a CRM baseball cap that we had produced—although I was not happy with the way they turned out. The black cap with mustard logo is available for $5.00, postage, handling and GST included and can be purchased through CRM.
I wasn't satisfied with the logo print and, as we had six dozen done, we are only interested in recovering our expenses on this 'one of a kind' item. Where else can you get a ball cap for five bucks, eh? Our next attempt at caps will feature the logo in three colours.
And I must mention CRM sweat shirts. We've given Canadian hobby shops exclusive sales until the end of September when the shirts will become available through mail order. An announcement and order form will appear in Train 2, Track 2. We have experienced some difficulties in obtaining certain sizes and colours but all orders will be filled and your patience is certainly appreciated.
We have many interesting articles ready for future issues including three on passenger cars, an update on the GWWD, the Essex Terminal Rail and more Canadian passenger stations. We make note of a new department entitled 'Paint it Canadian!' that will feature paint schemes for Canadian locomotives as presented by Don Lewis, producer of the 'Rail Canada' series books from LPD Publishing.
And a new department entitled "One Winters Eve" will appear soon. What else is there to do—anywhere in Canada when the temperature is below zero—but create a one evening project? Some say that's part of our culture!
OK, gang, that's all for now, I can smell burgers on the BBQ! Got to get them while summer's still here; those one evening projects will be here before you know it!
