From the Dome Car: Train 1 Track 1 (Premier Issue)
It's finally out! After a twenty-year gap, a publication appears that dedicates itself to modellers who "do it Canadian".
I am, as the Editor of CANADIAN RAILWAY MODELLER, very pleased and take great pride in presenting the Premier issue of CRM to you, the modellers who want more information in regards to Canadian roads and railways.
And to those who have been so patient, from our very first subscriber to those who have submitted articles, I com[1]mend you for your support and faith that the job would be done.
And done it is! Aricless from modellers from coast to coast. Canadian models, Canadian equipment, Canadian structures, Canadian trains. Every article about an aspect of modelling Canadian roads. And with advertisers: Every ad about a piece of equipment that is Canadian or that can be made into a Canadian road. This is terrific!
The idea for this publication is not new. But it is different. We will try to get it right, to be the best that we can be. There will be a wide range of articles for both the advanced and beginning modellers, with plenty of Canadian content for all. We are dependent on article contributions for our content; if you are not seeing what you want, perhaps it is be[1]cause we are depending on you to write it! There is plenty of help available from our fellow modellers; in most cases all one has to do is ask for assistance.
We hear that this type of publication is wanted and needed by those who look for Canadian modelling information, and that puts the responsibility for its content on all of us who model and follow these roads.
Needless to say, this first issue has been both exciting and frustrating to create, but, as we get the hang of it, they will become easier to produce. The next issue is in production as you read this and there seems to be no lack of information to go into the magazine. There have been many unsung heroes that have been instrumental in this production and that are all owed tons of thanks.
Just think, Canadian modellers now have there own magazine to 'talk' to about model information, prototype information, shows, events, historical information and all the things that we were more or less denied in the past. Not that other publications weren't trying to fil the gap. Many very good Canadian articles have appeared in modelling magazines.
We can do many exciting things with this new Canadian medium. I am looking for[1]ward to continue making the magazine one that modellers will look to for information about Canadian modelling projects and ideas because we do things a little differently up here.
Are there modellers out there who model Canadian roads? You bet there are! Narrow gauge modellers in Whitehorse; Canadian Pacific in N scale in Daly City, California; O scale modellers in London. Ontario; Canadian National in HO scale in Harvey, Louisiana; S scale in Winnipeg; LGB in Toronto, WE ARE EVERYWHERE! Why, we even have modellers Halifax who like B.C. Rail and those in Vancouver that prefer the Newfoundland narrow gauge stuff!
So, here is the first issue, and we know you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed producing it. We expect the content, both in material and advertising, to grow with each successive issue, We are looking forward to serving you in the pursuit of Canadian modelling information and with articles that will highlight our Canadian railway systems. We hope to put this information into the hands of those who crave it. We have railways in Canada that some have never heard of before and methods of operation that need tobe told.
This is Canuck railroadin', the land of partial ice and snow where the ‘winterization hatch' and the comfort cab are at home. The only railway operation in the world where the country operates on metric and the railways chalk up the miles! See you next issue.
