From the Dome Car: Train 1 Track 6 (March-April 1991)

One year of issues done! Morgan is pretty proud of that, as he should be. He is also looking ahead, mentioning for the first time something that would become a regular feature of CRM: Canadian Archives, which brought readers H.O. scale plans of locomotives from the Ontario Society of H.O. Model Engineers. And to remind younger people of what the world of model railroading was like over 30 years ago, Morgan talks about an upcoming article about how to convert a Con-Cor passenger car into something that would stand in for The Canadian. (Something I did to make a reasonable facsimile of a Park car.)

And who would have believed that we would make this far; a whole year has gone by and with this issue Canadian Railway Modeller is ONE YEAR OLD! Congratulations are definitely in order.

To all of us, our readers, contributors, hobby shops, advertisers, staff, printer, lithographer and, yes, even our post office. It hasn’t been without challenges, but by golly we all came through in the crunch. So, to everyone, CONGRATULATIONS! Let us all continue the fine effort to continue to improve CRM and bring Canadian Railway Modeller's second year and on into the 90s.

There is plenty more to be published so we won't stop now. You want more, you got it! If you’ve got more to say, say it! You think we're stoppin' now, FORGET IT! Train 2, stainless Track 1 is comin' your way!

The welcome sign is out for our newest staff member, Nadene J. McBride. With the appointment comes the responsibilities of advertising and promotion. From what I've seen to date, Nadene loves her new career. Her real soft spot is VIA Rail slides!

And we have some new ideas up our stack. John O'Neal and J. Lee Smith, our resident video gurus, are interested in producing some exclusive Canadian productions based on Canadian modellers' home layouts. With the availability and ownership of home video cameras now so prominent, they are convinced that modellers who are taking videos of their layouts would be interested in having them 'produced.'

So here's the scoop. If you are interested in becoming part of these productions, send John or J. Lee a note in care of CRM for further details including payment schedules and they'll get back to you promptly.

Canadian Railway Modeller sweatshirts are now available to be ordered from your favourite Canadian hobby shop. Now we can show off the fact that we model 'the Canadian Way' by what we wear when attending the local train show or out at the mall. They look great!

If there is some difficulty in ordering yours, or there is no hobby shop in your area, let us know and we'll hook you up with one. CRM is not offering mail order service on this item as hobby shops across the country are our exclusive dealers. Visit yours soon!

We are currently working on a fold-out section featuring some of your favourite line drawings of locomotives in both steam and diesel as well as line drawings of buildings—all done to scale.

We are determined to continue to improve CRM and bring you, the modeller of Canadian roads, the information and articles that you want. In the works is something on converting Con-Cor passenger cars into authentic looking Canadian Pacific stainless steel 'Canadians' and more tips from the brass-basher himself, John Morris.

Upcoming are some very well-done steam engine projects as well as articles on some of our lesser-known roads, you know, the ones you've never heard of before. They're all headed your way in future issues of Canadian Railway Modeller.

If you aren't happy with what you're seeing, that must mean we are awaiting your submission! The call is still out for steam-oriented articles and modeller's photos are becoming scarce.

And so, as we approach the BBQ and vacation season (around here it's pretty short!), the offices of CRM will continue production on future issues of Canadian  Railway Modeller magazine.

If your travels take you to Winnipeg, be sure give us a call. And be sure to drop into some of our featured shops and railway museums while you're out and about this summer. We'll all be glad to welcome you. Catch you in the next issue.
